FIRE STOP JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Wildland Fire Fighter (FFT2)/ Prescribed Fire Crewmember (RXCM)/ Fuels Reduction Crew Member

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

•  18 years old

•  High School graduation or equivalent

•  Valid Drivers License

 

FFT2 and RXCM Training Requirements: S-130, S-190, L-180, I-100 and CPR/First Aid

 

No supervisory responsibility

 

General Duties, Abilities and Requirements:

 

•  Maintain arduous physical fitness level and general health to meet the              requirements of fighting fire

•  Work effectively as a team member

•  Follow verbal and written instructions

•  Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

•  Operate basic fireline hand tools

•  Tactfully and effectively interact with the general public and clients regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation or economic status

•  Basic Labor: Pile covering, slash piling, chipping, handline construction, hiking, brush pulling, weed whacking and mowing

 

Responsibilities: to keep/maintain the following in “FIRE READY” condition:

 

•  Personal Equipment

•  Issued Equipment

•  Company Equipment and Vehicles

•  Maintain Facilities and barracks

•  Maintain professional appearance and company apparel

•  Report personnel injuries to supervisors

•  Report unsafe acts to supervisor

 

Firefighting Expectations:

 

•  Endure long hours with minimal days off (14-2)

•  Company

•  Follow Chain of Command

•  Operate tools and equipment according to proper use

•  Maintain certification according to NWCG standards

 

Prescribed Fire responsibilities include:

 

•  Construction of fire line

•  Hold fire within constructed lines

•  Assist in mop-up procedures

Driver/Operator (FFT1) / Designated Project Supervisors

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

•  21 years old

•  Three or more years of Wildland firefighting experience

•  Valid Drivers License

•  Valid medical examiners card

 

Minimum Training Requirements:

 

•  S-131, S-133, S-211, S-212, S-215 and S-216

•  This position requires a signed task book

 

Supervises small 3-10 person fuels reduction teams and reports to Engine Captains or Fuels Reduction Managers

 

General Duties, Abilities and Requirements:

 

•  Working leader of squad

•  Perform advanced maintenance and repairs on chainsaws and other power tools

•  Conduct safety briefing

•  Daily activity reporting and timekeeping

•  Assure safety policies are adhered to company handbook

•  Report daily staffing activity to Engine Captain or fuels reduction manager

•  Operate and maintain vehicle – complete Inspection Reports

Firefighting Expectations:

 

•  Drive company vehicles and engines

•  Operates Fire apparatus pumps and equipment

•  Maintains list of equipment deployed during fire fighting assignments

•  Maintains chain of command between Firefighter and Engine Captain

•  Report personnel injuries to supervisor

•  Report unsafe acts to supervisor

•  Light fireline maintenance

 

Additional Expectations:

•  Responsible for assigned crewmen - Make sure during shift everyone is accounted for

•  Ensures equipment and vehicles are organized and clean

•  Ensures company policy is followed and reports discrepancies to management

•  Follows and complies with company credit card use policy

•  Maintains petty cash and receipts accountability

•  Maintains vehicle and facility security

•  Maintains emergency food and water for engine company and crew members

•  Project Supervisors are responsible for Time card collection, accuracy and submitting

 

Engine Company Captain (ENGB)

  

Minimum Qualifications:


•  Five or more years of Wildland firefighting experience

•  Valid Drivers License

•  Clean DMV driving record

•  Valid Medical driving record

 

Minimum Training Requirements:


•  I-200, L-280, S-230, S-231, S-234, S-290

•  This position requires a signed task book

 

Supervises all assigned field employees --reports to Battalion Leaders and management

General Duties, Abilities and Requirements:


•  Maintains an Arduous physical fitness required – A leader in fitness and health

•  Quality control and production management

•  Delegate’s tasks and assignments

•  Maintains communication with battalion leaders and/or management

•  Supervises Single Resource Boss trainee

•  Performs or outsources advanced maintenance and repairs on equipment and vehicles

•  Conducts safety briefing – complete Tailgate Safety Forms

•  Daily activity reporting and timekeeping

•  Assures safety policies are adhered to

•  Supervises the Operation and maintenance of vehicles

•  Report personnel injuries

•  Records unsafe acts and takes appropriate action

•  Makes sure employee time cards are correct and signed

•  Enforces all policies and company rules

 

Firefighting assignment Responsibilities:


•  Follows proper dispatch/resource order procedures

•  Ensures timely check in at assignments

•  Ensures Engine Company maintains a state of readiness

•  Collects use invoices and submits to management

•  Collects engine/Crew personnel evaluations

•  Daily Activity Reports

•  Vehicle maintenance, schedule repairs and inventory

•  Communication with crewmembers

 

Additional Responsibilities:


•  Instruction of classes and training exercises
