About Fire Chief Jeff Meston

Fire Stop's Fire Chief Jeff Meston

Jeff Meston brings a wealth of experience, fierce professionalism and dedication to truly define Fire Stop as the next generation of contract wildfire services.

 

Meston recently retired as the Fire Chief for the Novato Fire Protection District after serving in public service for over thirty years. Meston has also served in the Alameda Country OES Fire Department and the City of Madera Fire Department. Meston has held the rank of volunteer firefighter, firefighter, engineer, battalion chief training/ems, division chief, assistant chief and fire chief. He has worked in both emergency management and executive leadership capacities. Meston is a Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Commission of Fire Accreditation International, Is a California Certified Fire Chief, a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program for the National Fire Academy and holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration. Meston has served as a fire service consultant for over twenty-five years specializing in planning, standards of cover documents, master planning, evaluation of fire service delivery systems, team building and general management and leadership. Meston has served at many wildland interface incidents as an incident commander, operations chief, division/group supervisor and strike team leader. Meston was involved in the tragic Tunnel Fire in the Oakland/Berkeley hills. Meston facilitated his agency being the first in Marin to adopt an Urban-Wildland Interface Code by local ordinance. This ordinance is intended to reduce risk to life and structures from wildland fire while providing firefighters time to provide fire suppression when safe to do so. Meston is a published author for all major fire service publications, has taught at the National Fire Academy, State of California Fire Academy and served as a speaker to all National Fire Service Conferences.
